Carver Mead and Barbara Smith won prizes for the top Porcelain Exhibit,
the Milholland Education Award, The Jack Todd Memorial Award, the Power Line
Explorer Journal Award, the Central Florida Insulator Club's award. for Best
First Time Display at a National Show, the Greater Chicago Insulator
Club's award for Best Use of Power Insulators, and the Springfield-Clark
County Chamber of Commerce Award for People's Choice of an Outstanding Display.

Carver and Barb captured the spotlight by displaying an exciting find of
porcelain insulators they made last winter on a powerline built in Kern County,
California in 1907. These are M-4800 insulators, which tip the scales at 67
pounds with the metal pins attached. They are the largest insulators used for
long distance power transmission.
Found were Victor, Thomas and New Lexington M-4800's. (Crown Jewels will
feature the discovery in an upcoming issue.)
