CD244 Photo & Information

Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", August 1971, page 30

Dear Don & Dora:

Enclosed is a picture of the S.C. A. Power insulator I showed you Friday evening at Colorado Springs. The only difference being that I have cut the two pieces and put them together. It really makes a beautiful piece for my collection. The color is out of this world.

I have run down a little of the history of this insulator since seeing you last. It was made by Good or R. Good of Denver about 1899-1900. Mr. McLaughlin worked for Good about then and later was president of the McLaughlin Glass Co. of California. Mr. McLaughlin, while working for Good, recalls a power insulator that they made which gave them trouble and was later discontinued. In the 1969 Report by Mr. N. R. Woodward there was no further information available. I believe this to be one of these power insulators.

Both the location of the find and the age are indicative of this. There were also some old Lock-Victor cross top white porcelain - two styles found on the old abandoned line.

I am hopeful of someday finding a mint one - I have a friend who has one mint and it is really something. I won't mention his name at this time because I haven't asked his permission.

Say, that National Meet was something else! Jesse Moreland and his bunch really did a swell job.

Sincerely,
Chuck Henry
Bakersfield, Cal.
