Executive Secretary, Rt. 3 32720 Box 566, DeLand, Florida

Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", September 1973, page 14

Dear Dora,

Received your nice letter July 23rd. Will give you a little background on myself and my family.

I was born and raised in DeLand, Florida, home of Stetson University and one of the earliest electric generators and distribution systems in Florida, built by John B. Stetson in 1887. I am a third generation "Florida Cracker". Served two years in the Navy during W.W. II. I have been employed by Florida Power Corporation in DeLand for the past 27 years, presently as a Line Foreman

My wife, Jo, is also a native Floridian, born in Defuniac Springs. She is an ardent collector of insulators and dolls. We have one son (Wayne) who is married (Leah), and a two year old granddaughter (Angie). Wayne and his family are living in Durham, North Carolina, where he is attending Duke University working on his masters and doctors degrees in English.

Jo and I are charter members of the M. T. Bottle Collectors Association of Volusia County. I served as its President for two years, and I am now a Director. I am a chairman of the Trade Festival the club holds each spring for insulator and bottle collectors at the county fairgrounds.

We started collecting bottles about six years ago. Then four years ago a friend who works for S.B.T. got us interested in insulators, and naturally, because of my job, they fitted in perfectly. For the past two years I have been specializing in power insulators, and Jo in lightning rod insulators.

We have hopes that Florida Power Corporation will build a museum at the Nuclear Power Plant in Crystal River, Florida. If they do, Jo and I will be donating our collection to it, so that future generations can enjoy it as much as we have.

The welcome mat is always out at our home for all insulator collectors. Stop by when you are in our area.

Yours truly,
Bill Dreggors
