JEFFERSON STATE SUMMER SWAP
Reprinted from "Crown Jewels of the Wire", September 2006, inside cover

Say, "Insulator". Photographer David Banks managed to get many of the folks at the Jefferson State Insulator Club Swap Meet to hold still for a minute. Seated are Arlene Jackson, Joann Wood, Doris Banks, & Christy Morrell. Standing in the second row are Tim Wood, Bill Rohde, Howard Banks, Carol Blakely, Bill Vincent, Gary Michener, & Billy Myers. Back row: Bob Jackson, Denley Bryson, Scott Morrell, Steve March, Bill Ostrander, Ben Kirsten, Mid Norris, and Dale Blakely.

Attendees from four western states gathered in Merlin, Oregon at the temporary headquarters of Crown Jewels magazine on July 29th for a backyard swap meet.

What is the origin of all those smiles? Good glass and porcelain insulators? Or the great friendships that develop from these gatherings? Probably both. But we recommend you attend an event to find out for yourself.

Below: You know you are serious about the hobby when individual insulators in your collection weigh more than you do. Ken Klein has had an opportunity to salvage items from some pre-1920 power substations. The insulators he's recovered, besides being gigantic, are exceedingly scarce as most are demolished for the scrap metal fastened to them. Ken will exhibit these and many more of his finds, some even larger, at the Mid Norris "insulator ranch" backyard swap meet, September 15-16 in Chiloquin, Oregon.
