4KV Distribution Construction
by Steve Corfidi

Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", November 1983, page 14

The following pictures are all of 4KV distribution construction in Baltimore, Maryland, and are just a sampling of what was perhaps (as crazy as this might sound) the best looking "old Style" construction anywhere.

Seriously, I've been to many cities in this country and can honestly say that the Baltimore Gas & Electric Company's 4KV construction really had a style and class that was unsurpassed anywhere.

Most of the "good stuff" is gone now, as 13KV conversion has been going on since the early 1960's. At any rate, what I've enclosed should give you an idea of how it was.

I no longer live in Baltimore (I recently moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where I'm a meteorologist with the National Severe Storms Forecast Center), but whenever I get back home I try to schedule at least a short trip about town to see how much more of the 4 has been overtaken by 13KV.
