Crown Jewels Summer Swap
Reprinted from "Crown Jewels of the Wire", November 2005, page 10

Your editors hosted a back yard swap meet again this summer. Above, Dave Kurns and Terry Drolliger discuss the merits of an amber CD 145 H.G. Co. Carl Scott holds in his hands.

Below, Judy Bickford and Barb Cherry visit while Mindy Michener introduces her friend Michele Monti to the hobby.

Robin Harrison, Ben Kirsten, Caleb Thimell and Gil Hedges look over a table full of insulators. Treasures at the swap ranged from classic porcelain to colorful gems to rare pieces such as a CD 190/191 California two piece transposition.

Ken Kline stands behind a rack he made for displaying suspension insulators. The materials are entirely appropriate, as the Ken used steel from actual towers.

Linda Banks and Joanne Wood share a laugh at the Crown Jewels backyard swap meet last summer. The events features a barbeque lunch and fresh root beer made while the swap meet is underway. Some folks arrived a day early, camping in the wooded grove in our front yard. In addition to tenting it, those who arrived early enjoyed dinner just a few miles away at the Galice Resort on the banks of the world famous Rogue River.

Gary Michener and Mike Randall closely inspect a CD 120, a specialty of Gary's. While Linda and I have been hosting a backyard swap meet every other year since 1999, we have so much fun we'd decided to host one every year from now on. So, start planning to visit Southern Oregon next summer! We'd love to see you.

Howard
