A letter of introduction from the new president of the National Insulator
To those of you I haven't had an opportunity to meet yet or those who have
not yet joined the N.I.A., may I invite you to join our organization. And I take
this opportunity to introduce myself.
My name is Jerry Turner. I am 38 years old, have had 20 wonderful years of
marriage with a very understanding and lovely wife by the name of Marilyn. We
have four children: Tiger, 18 years; David, 17 years; Gary, 14 years; and
Jeanne, 12 years; who we are proud of most of the time.

For the last 15 years I worked for a vending machine company as a maintenance
man. I am presently driving a taxi in Cincinnati, but hope to land another job
in maintenance with the telephone company or another vending company.
Insulator collecting began with a chance encounter with a ditch filled with
telephone insulators in 1970. As I dug them out I noticed the different designs
and markings and became interested in collecting them. We now have one room in
the house loaded to the ceiling on all four walls with glass and porcelain
insulators, and a wall in the living room loaded with weathervanes.
The biggest thrill for our family is going to a company dump and digging for
insulators. I recommend to everyone this form of scrounging up insulators.
Ninety per cent of the time you can obtain permission to dig, making it a legal
and safe way to increase your collections.
Some people have contacted me and asked, "What are you going to do for
the N.I.A.?" Obviously they fail to realize that this is their hobby and
their organization, too. Let me ask you, "What direction do you want to go?
What changes, programs, or innovations do you want to see made?" Let me
know. We have an excellent executive board and committeemen from all walks of
life--really well qualified people. Let's not waste them by apathy, friction and
Two items we have undertaken already are a nationwide Insulator Insurance
Policy and an easing of custom requirements for our Canadian neighbors.
So let's hear from you! Stand up and be counted!
To Marion Milholland, from the National Insulator Association, best wishes
for a speedy recovery.
