Message to readers about contents for this month....

YOUR OPINIONS, PLEASE...

I would like to know if you would like to use these pictures for you readers to see. I can't find anything like this on the internet. The close up picture of the embossing shows what looks like the company that made it might have used a previously chipped insulator to make the mold. Is this possible?

Meet Cover Artist Colin Issel

I'm 10 years old. My favorite hobbies are collecting insulators, playing computer games, reading and making models. My mom did electric line construction and she likes insulators so I started to like them too. I have about 30 ...                    [more]

Crown Jewels Summer Swap

Your editors hosted a back yard swap meet again this summer. Above, Dave Kurns and Terry Drolliger discuss the merits of an amber CD 145 H.G. Co. Carl Scott holds in his hands.

Insulator of the Month

These three Fred M. Locke uniparts are favorites of Linda's and myself, in part because we found them ourselves. They were used on a telephone line that ran on sidepegs below a power line that used classic M-2795's. While collectors harvested the gutter tops decades ago, these small insulators went undetected, ...                    [more]

Gone to Bodie

By Carver Mead & Barbara Smith

From an engineering perspective, a mine is simply a machine for turning energy into Gold. The energy has to come from somewhere. In the earliest days of the Gold rush, human muscle supplied the energy to dig gravel and slosh pans. As the easy Gold was worked out, water-power was used to wash away hillsides and ...                    [more]

The Toledo, Iowa Swap Meet

   By Brian Rieker

The Toledo, Iowa swap meet was an outstanding event. It keeps growing every year. This year, my buddy, Ethan Yowell and I carpooled from Kansas, arriving Friday evening, and hung out at Tom Murphy's for some show & tell. While there, we all previewed the MVIC cookbook that will be available for order at ...                    [more]
