CD 804.3 Isorex
by Bill Hungate
Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", February 1978, page 16
When Marion Milholland was putting out his 3rd Revision, I was collecting
foreign insulators, and as I came upon one that I thought had not previously
been classified or photographed, I sent it to him. There were four in all that
are now in that book, as well as the new Bicentennial Edition. I am very proud
to have these in my collection.
Somehow, the photograph of the CD 804.3 Isorex
from Moracco failed to get in the books, so anyone who has one naturally
wouldn't know it. I am enclosing a photo of mine, if you care to print it for
the benefit of other collectors. (At left is a picture of the dark green CD
804.3, front- ISOREX, from Moracco.)
Also enclosed is a photo of all four of the
foreign insulators mentioned above, as well as the CD 186 open-top Hemingray
19 that is printed on page 228 of the Bicentennial Edition.
From left to right, these insulators are as follows:
- CD 186 Hemingray No. 19 (Open-Top)
- CD 840 P&T/Eritrea (Ethiopia)
- CD 804.3 Isorex (Moracco)
- CD 801 L'Electro Verre (Vietnam or
France ?)
- CD 755 (F) E.S.A. (B) Nexo 5 (Africa)
The CD 840 from Ethiopia is
a rather unique insulator, in that the embossing is inclused into the glass, rather than
raised. Mr. Woodward said he had never seen one so embossed.
It came from the Province of Eritrea, and was found in Asmara, the capitol of
that province. Due to the revolution that has been going on over there for the
past several years, it is very doubtful that any insulators are being shipped
out. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has one from this
country.
I still have my display, including the above five, in the Favell Museum
of Western Art and Artifacts, here in Klamath Falls, Oregon, as well as my
display of power glass insulators at the Klamath County Museum. If any
collectors are going through Klamath Falls, I would be glad to take them through
both museums as my guest. My office phone number is (503) 882-4473, or after 4
P.M. at 882-6166 or 884-7106. You can write to me at 5231 Shasta Way, Klamath
Falls, OR 97601.
