QUESTIONS ANSWERED BY N. R. WOODWARD
Question sent in by John C. Carriger, Del City, Oklahoma: I have acquired
some of the CD 193-F-AM. TEL. & TEL. CO., and they were used as a one piece
insulator and are much different from the two piece insulator. I would like
information on these from someone and also the value if possible. Thank you.
In reply to John C. Carriger: The CD #193 is an early transposition top, even
though they are found on the line by themselves. Through the years, as the Bell
System companies have rebuilt and modernized their lines, old insulators by the
thousands have been given to the small independent telephone companies and
private individuals with their own lines in rural areas. On these "farmer
lines" anything that was an insulator was quite suitable in those days; and
thus a great many transposition tops, along with discarded ponies and tolls,
found their way into such service. As to the CD #193, there is no data that I
have seen indicating when that particular style was used; but it would surely be
one of the earlier, if not the earliest, versions of the Hibbard Transposition.
