INSULATOR OF THE MONTH

This CD 123 EC&M Co SF is one of my favorites. That's because I found it
myself.... all 50 or 60 or 70 pieces. The insulator has been painstakingly
reconstructed by Paul Greaves. It's an "F" mold EC&M in the color
collectors call "Arizona Blue." The pieces were found at the foot of
Telegraph Pass, east of Yuma. The insulator was used on a military telegraph
line that had been constructed in the mid 1870's. Most of the insulators found
along the line had been smashed to pieces. Apparently crew members dismantling
the line, probably also in the 1870's, didn't take the time to untie the wire to
remove those pesky, worthless insulators.
