Fisher Electric Railway System
Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", July 1973, page 2
ABOUT THE COVER
Our thanks to Reb Bennett and Louie Pellegrini, Jr. for the cover picture
this month. It and the pictures on this page show two unembossed variants of the
Fisher Electric Railway System built by Detroit Electrical Works owned by them.
Both specimens are aqua and one has the original mounting bracket. Only three
are now thought to exist, and the one with the mounting bracket is unique. The
insulators were dug in San Jose, California, where the Fisher Electric Railway
System operated along 7 miles of track from September 1888 to early 1889. A
similar system operated in Detroit, Michigan for a somewhat longer period of
time.
