NO TIE REUNION
Reprinted from "Crown Jewels of the Wire", August 2006, page 37
Organized by Jason Townsend, a number of collector participated in what may
be the largest, to date, reunion of porcelain "no tie" insulators.
Perhaps best known are the patent designs of Harloe and Purkey, but other styles
were also on display. The concept behind "no ties" is that the design
of the insulator holds the wire in place, saving time and labor for
communications companies. It's tough to find even one Harloe (white porcelain
above) at an insulator show; much less the several dozen shown here.
Below,
Porcelain Insulator News columnist Elton Gish prepares to photograph a group of
ink-stamped Harloe's. He'll be writing more about this subject in a future
column of Crown Jewels. "No ties" make up some of the hobby's most
unusually shaped, and often, scarcest insulators.
