N.I.A. Porcelain Commemorative Review
by Dora Harned
Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", September 1976, page 2
Perhaps you have noticed the ad in the August or current issue, page 43 of
Crown Jewels, on the porcelain commemorative insulator made by Dick Alumbaugh
for this year's National convention.
Last year was the first year we had a porcelain commemorative for our
National show, and the color was gold.
This year's commemorative porcelain is glazed a beautiful baby blue and is
made in the same style (U-390) as last year's. The embossing reads:
(Front) |
7th N.I.A. Convention
Berea, Ohio
1776-1976 |
(Back) |
Serial No. - - - of 500 (Of course your own serial number is stamped
in the blanks.) |
Crown Jewels' is stamped 006, which is our number and will remain the same
each year with each new commemorative.
You also receive a blue registration certificate to certify that you are the
owner of the insulator bearing that serial number. If you ever do decide to sell
your commemorative, it can be re-registered for the new owner. Just send a bill
of sale signed by the original owner to Dick Alumbaugh, plus a self-addressed
stamped envelope, and he will take care of re-registering for the new owner.
I have seen the glass commemoratives jump in value, and I can't help but
believe that the porcelain commemoratives will also, since they are produced in
a limited number. There are several collectors now trying to collect full sets
of the commemoratives, and it's getting really hard to find the ones for the
first few years, because they are already in collections.
If you would like more information on how the porcelain commemorative came
into being, see the June 1975 issue of Crown Jewels, pages 4 and 5.
If you wish to order this year's porcelain commemorative, send a total of
$9.50 to:
