Porcelain Mystery

Lineman David Kurns is asking readers to help him solve a mystery. He
recently found this insulator on a pole in Oregon. Dave said he climbed the pole
to recover one insulator, only to find it was damaged. Looking around at what
else was on the pole, he found this oddity. Was someone at the factory just
having fun? What do the letters stand for? A name? A message? In the picture
below, we transformed the image (flipped it horizontally). The letters appear to
be: "H V I C". There also appears to be an "H" marked in the
wire groove. There are no markings on the reverse. If the insulator hadn't been
facing just right, Dave says he would never have noticed this oddly marked
little porcelain signal.
