Members of the Jefferson State Insulator Club voted to further their commitment to youth in the hobby by promoting a youth in the hobby. 7th Grader Mindy Michener ran for, and was elected, President of the club. The JSIC has members all around the nation, but geographically is focused on Northern California and Southern Oregon. Mindy, as comfortable behind a microphone as she is on horseback, says she intends to lead the club into continuing its tradition of holding successful shows and swap meets; and to encourage members to host more insulator hunts in the club's mountainous terrain. Mindy has helped to emcee several of the club's shows. The photos on the cover and opposite page were taken after Mindy's election. Club members loaned her a helmet, belt, tools, hard hat, gloves, and climbing gear for her first ever climb. The publicity shots were staged for her to retrieve a purple Diamond pony, placed on a side peg only about 8 feet off the ground on a pole in Mid Norris' horse pasture in Chiloquin, Oregon.

Kids, take a look at these colorful insulators. Imagine finding them! Imagine finding them in a barrel in a thrift store! Imagine buying them, barrel and all, for virtually nothing. It really happened just a couple months ago. See story on page 26.
