I remember reading that muriatic (hydrochloric) acid could dissolve the cement
surrounding metal pins but I don't remember how long it takes. I picked up a
large insulator from the local power company in November, 1986, and immediately
started the acid working while I started to wait.

It is hard to believe that all insulators have been found, so I went out and
bought a telescopic pole and bolted an oil filter cringe tool to the end of the
pole. Then I wrapped tape around the end of the oil filter ring so I wouldn't
scratch the insulators. It fits over the insulators just fine while they are on
